The Midday News Wrap: 06.09.17

Former FBI Director James Comey was center stage yesterday in public and classified appearances before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Following Comey's public testimony, President Trump’s private lawyer pronounced the President vindicated. The President himself tweeted the same thing this morning. Many observers, however, disagree. Partisanship was by no means absent during Comey’s testimony. Like beauty, Obstruction of Justice is in the eye of the beholder.  The cloud of scandal hovering over the Trump administration is perhaps murkier than ever.

Brits woke up this morning to a big dollop of murkiness as well. Prime Minister Theresa May rolled the dice and lost, big, when she called for a snap election to burnish her bargaining position in the upcoming Brexit talks. Her plan backfired. Yesterday’s election left her party severely weakened, and her own political future in doubt.

She covered the 2016 presidential election for The Post and she is currently a journalism fellow at Oxford University in the UK. She was a key member of the Post team that produced the best-selling biography Trump Revealed. Jayne Miller is the award winning lead investigative reporter for WBAL Television.
