Flex Chamber Music Trios

Flex Chamber Music Trios

Explore a mix of classical works about love, teas, zoo animals, and meditation written for clarinet, horn, and bassoon. Performers include Towson University clarinet professor Natalie Groom and guest collaborators Kat Robinson (horn) and Qun Ren (bassoon). Hear world premieres and commissions designed as “flex” chamber music. The program is ~60 minutes without intermission.

What is flex chamber music? When looking at a piece of music, it usually lists out every individual instrument that should be playing a unique line: flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, cello, etc. But flexible music is designed so a variety of instruments can “flex” into each part. The music would instead be grouped in Parts, where Part 1 can be played by A, B, or C instruments, Part 2 can be played by X, Y, or Z instruments, and so on and so forth for Part 3, Part 4.

This flexibility makes it so many unique combinations of instruments can perform the music, and the flex pieces on this program were specifically designed so students, teachers, and performers alike could play and enjoy the music together.

Repertoire includes works by:
