At Lockerman-Bundy Elementary in West Baltimore a few days ago, student musicians were tuning up for tomorrow’s “Concert for Peace” with the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras, the Baltimore School for the Arts, the Peabody Conservatory, and singers from Mount Lebanon Baptist Church and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society. Some of the musicians are OrchKids – the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s outreach, in partnership with Baltimore public schools, to create social change and promising futures for kids in Baltimore’s neighborhoods. Orchkids comprises more than 800 students. We sat down with a few students who have been part of the program for years to get their perspective on the recent unrest.
