Sunday, March 16, 1 PM
National Mall and Online

Join a delegation of Guna community members visiting from Gunayala, Panama as they collectively reflect on a century of Guna independence. During the early part of the twentieth century, the government of Panama attempted to suppress Indigenous customs and culture, which resulted in a brief but successful revolt by the Dule (“people” in Guna) to maintain their traditions. This community-led panel discussion will delve deeper into the history of the Dule Revolution of 1925 and the events and activities marking the centennial.

This program will primarily be held in Spanish with English translation and will be livestreamed on the museum’s YouTube channel.

This program is co-convened by Onmaggeddummad Namaggaled (General Congress of Guna Culture), the Guna Centennial Commission of the 1925 Dule Revolution, and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.
