Should Baltimore’s School Police Carry Guns?

As Maryland plans to ramp up the number of school police officers across the state, Baltimore City’s school board considers whether its force should carry guns during the school day. Currently officers must store their weapons in a secure place throughout the day. Maurice Canady, director of the National Association of School Resource Officers, describes the role of officers in schools and the training they need. Then, Jennifer Bevan-Dangel of the nonprofit Advocates for Children and Youth lays out the concerns she’s hearing.
