The White House announced last month that 10,000 Syrian refugees will be admitted to the United States over the coming year. Since 2011, when civil war erupted in Syrian, fewer than 2000 displaced Syrians were welcomed into America.

In this hour, a look at efforts to resettle refugees and provide humanitarian assistance.

We'll speak to Ruben Chandrasakar, executive director for the International Rescue Committee in Baltimore, about their work with refugees in Maryland -- 26 Syrian refugees have been resettled here since January. We'll also hear from Caroline Brennen of Catholic Relief Services about their recent undertaking to resettle Syrian refugees in Germany. And Abdalhamid Ali, who came the US in 2013 to escape violence in Darfur, talks about the challenges that refugees and asylum seekers face when rebuilding their lives in a new home.
