Explore the remarkable artistic journey and cultural legacy of Lain Singh Bangdel (1919–2002), widely regarded as the “Father of Modern Art” in Nepal. This collection of paintings—spanning the 1940s to the 1980s— reflects and reframes the cultural, political, and emotional realities of Bangdel’s time and traces his evolving vision as he navigated multiple worlds: colonial and postcolonial South Asia, cosmopolitan Europe, and an emerging modern Nepal.

Known for her crossover mix of smooth jazz, fusion, pop, and new age music, Japan's Keiko Matsui is an internationally acclaimed pianist and composer. Emerging in the late '80s, Matsui has issued 27 albums over the decades including 1989's Under Northern Lights, 1995's chart-topping Sapphire, 2016's Journey to the Heart, and 2023’s Euphoria, that displayed a grasp of both Western and Eastern musical traditions and her love of nature and spirituality. She’s collaborated with the likes of Gregoire Maret, Kirk Whalum, Marcus Miller, Lalah Hathaway, Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Bob James, Jackiem Joyner, Gerald Albright, Akira Jimbo and more. She’s received many awards over the years, including Billboard Magazine naming her the #1 contemporary Jazz Independent Artist of the year (1996), being ranked as the #3 best-selling contemporary jazz artist of the year (1998), and was the Oasis Smooth Jazz Awards “Female Artist of the Year" (2000 & 2001).

2nd Annual Rotunda Rocks Returns to Hampden Neighborhood this Spring
Family-friendly Night of Rockin’ Fun Begins May 3 and Runs Every Friday Until End of September

Whether you like to jam to rock, folk, blues, Indie, Latin or reggae, there is something for everyone as the second annual Rotunda Rocks concert series returns to Hampden this spring/summer (711 W 40th Street). This family-friendly FREE concert series, presented by MCB Real Estate, features live music on the plaza and a street festival atmosphere with delicious local food and drinks, fun games and local vendors on Fridays, 6-9 p.m. beginning May 3 and running until September 27. Rotunda Rocks is open to the public and welcomes families and pets. A portion of proceeds from beverage sales benefits the Maryland SPCA. Raise a Glass with Richcroft is the organization’s signature fundraising event and features local wine tastings paired with gourmet cuisine by Lib’s Catering and entertainment by singing sensation and Voice Season 3 contestant Nelly’s Echo. Guests will have an opportunity to learn more about the programs and services provided by Richcroft to support those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. THE HEIDI CHRONICLES Continues Vagabond Players’ 110th Season

Before hashtags and headlines, there was Heidi—searching for connection, purpose and a place in a rapidly changing world. This spring, Vagabond Players brings Wendy Wasserstein’s THE HEIDI CHRONICLES to the stage, directed by Lee Conderacci in her Vagabond Players debut.
In this sparkling and oh so relevant comedy, art historian Heidi Holland and her friends travel from the 1960s through the 1980s making life-changing choices relating to dating, mating and career paths. Will the brilliant and perceptive Heidi find the partner of her dreams? Do “women’s libbers” consider Heidi’s decision about having a child to be a betrayal? Can Heidi attain the fulfillment that she—and millions of other women—fought for? Winner of both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, The Heidi Chronicles remains a sharp, insightful and deeply relatable look at friendship, feminism and the search for meaning and continues to serve as a reminder of what’s been accomplished and how much remains to be achieved.
