Romare Bearden Visionary Artist

Reginald F. Lewis Museum

Even before his first solo exhibit in Harlem in 1940, artist Romare Bearden’s focus was social change. He was a social worker for decades, as he enhanced his skills as a political cartoonist, painter and creator of collages. Bearden’s art is on exhibit now at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. Saturday Jan. 12, his niece Deidra Harris-Kelley, co director of the Romare Bearden Foundation, will speak about him. She told us about her lecture titled: Artist as Activist. For more information about the lecture, visit this link. For information about the Romare Bearden Foundation, visit this link.
