Heroin addiction has soared in the country's rural and suburban areas. In Maryland, the number of heroin-related deaths jumped more than 50 percent between 2011 and 2012, according to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

We hear the stories of Barbara Allen of Ellicott City, Toni Torsch of Perry Hall and Ginger Rosela of Calvert County, each of them mothers who lost a child to heroin addiction. We'll also hear about two similar "Good Samaritan" bills in the Maryland legislature; they would give limited immunity to people who seek emergency help for someone experiencing an overdose.
