The Number Of Baltimore Children In Foster Care Is Dropping

Carissa Rogers / Creative Commons

In 2007, more than 6,000 children in Baltimore were in foster care. This year, the number of children in foster care has slipped below 2,000 – a reduction of more than two thirds. At a time when so many aspects of Baltimore are coming under scrutiny, this positive trend seems worth talking about. With Sheilah in the studio is Molly McGrath Tierney. She has headed the Baltimore City Department of Social Services for most of the past seven years.

Molly McGrath Tierney gave a TEDx talk in Baltimore in 2014 that expands on the ideas we spoke about in this interview.

Sheilah Kast is the host of On The Record, Monday-Friday, 9:30-10:00 am.
