German grocer Lidl will continue its expansion into the Maryland market with the Dec. 9 opening of its latest store off York Road in Timonium. The store will be the third location in Baltimore County and anchor the 113,519-square-foot Padonia Village Shopping Center at 61 E. Padonia Road. The Lidl will stretch 31,000 square feet and is the third grocer to lease that space in the last five years. Long-time tenant Mars Super Market went out of business in 2016 and the boutique, organic Green Valley Marketplace closed in February just over a year after it opened. The Lidl is fully stocked and an executive with Continental Realty Corp., owner of Padonia Village, said the grand opening is set to take place Dec. 9. The Padonia Village opening is part of a planned $500 million national expansion for the chain whose U.S. operations are based in Arlington, Virginia. It is one of 10 new stores planned for the state to join existing Lidl markets in Baltimore, Aberdeen, Perry Hall, Waldorf, Catonsville, Lanham and College Park.
