An exploration of the music of celebrated Jewish songwriters, whose achievements would come to dominate that body of work known as the “Great American Songbook.” Seth and the band will be swinging classic tunes from the likes of the Brothers Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, and more. Through music and insightful commentary from Seth, we'll explore the Jewish influence on these great American songwriters and how the lines began to blur between the music of the old country and the music of the New World. Expect lots of toe-tapping jazz, swing, and just a wee bit o' klezmer for good measure!

Seth Kibel is one of the Mid-Atlantic's premier woodwind specialists, working with some of the best bands in Klezmer, Jazz, Swing, and more. Wowing audiences on clarinet, flute, and saxophone, Seth has made a name for himself in the Washington/Baltimore region, and beyond. He is the featured performer with The Kleztet, Bay Jazz Project, Music Pilgrim Trio, Daryl Davis Band, The Natty Beaux, and more. Winner of 28 Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies), including "Best World Music Instrumentalist" (2003-11) and "Best Jazz Instrumentalist" (2005, 2007-8, 2011-14). His most recent recording, "Clown With A Stick," was released in May 2023 on the Azalea City Recordings record label. He's won numerous prizes in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC) including the Grand Prize in 2016 and a Gold Prize in 2022. When he's not performing, Seth frequently lectures on a variety of topics in music history for numerous institutions, including the Osher Lifelong Learning programs at Johns Hopkins and Towson Universities.

2nd Annual Rotunda Rocks Returns to Hampden Neighborhood this Spring
Family-friendly Night of Rockin’ Fun Begins May 3 and Runs Every Friday Until End of September

Whether you like to jam to rock, folk, blues, Indie, Latin or reggae, there is something for everyone as the second annual Rotunda Rocks concert series returns to Hampden this spring/summer (711 W 40th Street). This family-friendly FREE concert series, presented by MCB Real Estate, features live music on the plaza and a street festival atmosphere with delicious local food and drinks, fun games and local vendors on Fridays, 6-9 p.m. beginning May 3 and running until September 27. Rotunda Rocks is open to the public and welcomes families and pets. A portion of proceeds from beverage sales benefits the Maryland SPCA. Baltimore's Lafayette Gilchrist is a jazz pianist, but when his powerhouse funk/jazz band the New Volcanoes backs him up, listeners also get something different: a go-go beat. Gilchrist describes go-go, a style native to Washington, D.C., and its environs, as "almost like a slowed-down James Brown, but you have a combination of African rhythms." Blended with his jazz piano playing, that's the sound of Gilchrist's latest album, New Urban World Blues, released this May. Lafayette is not only a penetrating and sensitive artist, but also a composer who does not shy away from the influences of the greatest artists who inspire him to look for stylistic references. Baltimore Magazine said about Gilchrist, “While he’s revered for his iconic scores in David Simon’s HBO series The Wire, Treme, and The Deuce, it’s his pure talent and unbridled spirit that have earned this D.C. native and longtime Baltimore resident his much-deserved praise.”
