Exploring Improv to Sketch: Workshop with Nekoro Gomes

About this workshop:

Improvisers, you too can write sketch comedy! In this workshop, you'll explore sketch writing starting from improvised scenes. Throughout the workshop you will:

Improvise scenes
Discuss the game of each scene
Refine the scenes into prepare sketches
Rehearse the sketches
Perform the sketches for the class!
From nothing to sketch in just two hours!

Prerequisites: This workshop expects an understanding of 2-person scenework and the concept of 'game of the scene' - we recommend participants having completed Fundamentals of Improv Level 2 or equivalent training.

About your facilitator:

Nekoro Gomes (he/they) is a Baltimore-based Writer and Improviser who has been actively performing Improv, Musical Improv, Sketch, and Character-based comedy for more than nine years. He started his career at Magnet Theater, where the idea for this workshop first germinated by taking Kevin McDonald's "Improv to Sketch" workshop. Nekoro has also trained at People's Improv Theater, UCB, The Armory, Baltimore Improv Group, and Highwire Improv. In Baltimore, you can find him doing a comedic rendition of the abolitionist Frederick Douglass around town as well as performing on the indie teams "Huge Nuisance" and "Hardcore Harold."

All participants are required to follow the Highwire Improv Code of Conduct and arrive on-time to make sure that we can align on how we’ll hold space for one another.

Parking is available for free in the parking lot at the intersection of 20th and St. Paul Streets. You’ll enter through the doors on the raised porch on the St. Paul street side of the building. St. Mark’s is an accessible space – for any detailed questions, please reach out to [email protected]
