Sears will close stores in Columbia and Westminster as part of a reorganization after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday. The Sears stores are among 142 set to shutter nationwide.
The local stores are at the Mall in Columbia and TownMall of Westminster.Additionally, the 125-year-old iconic retailer will close a location at Bowie Town Center and Kmart stores in Oxon Hill and Prince Frederick. There are currently about 700 Sears and Kmart stores in the United States, with about 70,000 employees. The company had about 2,000 stores about five years ago.
