A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 2 o'clock this afternoon, with 4 to 8 inches of snow likely in most parts of the WYPR listening area. Public schools in the listening area are closed (except for Washington County schools, which are on a 2-hour delay). Many other schedule changes are in effect.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 2pm. Most of the listening area is expected to see between 4 and 8 inches before the storm is done; the heaviest totals are likely south of Baltimore City; areas near the Pennsylvania border could only get a couple inches. The National Weather Service's latest snow accumulation prediction map is here.

Most public schools in Maryland are closed today – including those in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. In fact, all the systems in the WYPR listening area have announced plans to close today EXCEPT Washington County schools, which plan to open, but on a 2-hour delay.

Many private schools, colleges, and universities are also changing their schedules, so be sure to call ahead before you attempt to navigate the snowy and icy roads.

Federal government agencies in the DC area are closed; emergency and telework-ready employees must follow their agency’s policies. Social Security Administration offices in the Baltimore area are closed as well.

State government offices and facilities are now closed until noon: a liberal leave policy will then be in effect until the end of the day shift, but emergency essential personnel should report as usual.

Many local government offices are changing their schedules; Baltimore City has put a liberal leave policy in effect for non-essential employees.

Baltimore County government offices open at 10:30, and a liberal leave policy is in effect.

Carroll County government offices will open at 10am.

Harford County government offices will open at 10, with liberal leave in effect.

And a liberal leave policy is in effect for Howard County government workers.

MARC trains are running on an “S” schedule on all three lines. There’s no commuter bus service today.  There are delays on the light rail, with shuttle bus service between the  BWI Business Park Light Rail Station and BWI. And while local MTA buses are running, there are multiple delays and snow-related diversions.

Baltimore Gas and Electric is preparing for power outages. BGE’s outage map is here, and you can report outages by calling 877-778-2222.
