ARTEMIS is a powerful ensemble of modern jazz masters, founded in 2017 by pianist and musical director Renee Rosnes. Each musician is a bandleader and composer and every performance encompasses inspired arrangements of classics and originals. Performances across North America and Europe at major venues and festivals have garnered high praise from audiences and critics alike. It is no wonder that ARTEMIS has been awarded #1 Group of the Year in the Annual Downbeat Readers Poll in both 2023 and 2024. Their third recording “Arboresque” will be released February 28, 2025. The album is testament to the group’s evolving musical landscape featuring stellar arrangements and riveting originals contributed by all members of the band. The Rotunda Welcomes Back Popular Family-Friendly Concert Series this May 3rd Annual Rotunda Rocks Begins Friday, May 2 and Runs Every Friday through Friday, October 3
Grab a blanket or dust off your favorite portable chair and head on over to Hampden this spring for the return of the popular family-friendly concert series, the 3rd Annual Rotunda Rocks. This FREE weekly concert series, presented by MCB Real Estate, features live music on the Plaza and a street festival atmosphere with delicious local food and drinks, fun games and local vendors and will take place Fridays, 6-9 p.m. beginning May 2 and running until October 3. (711 West 40th Street). Whether you like rock n ’roll, folk, bluegrass, Indie, Latin, Celtic or reggae music, there is something for everyone and the event is open to the public. Since its’ inception in Washington, D.C. (1973), The Grammy-nominated African American vocal ensemble, SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK® has thrived as a performance ensemble founded on the missions of empowerment, education, and entertainment. They've has been described as, “one of the most dynamic, versatile and still relevant musical collectives today.”
Their current roster includes vocalists Carol Maillard, Louise Robinson, Aisha Kahlil, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Rochelle Rice and Christie Dashiell, with Romeir Mendez on upright acoustic/electric bass, and American Sign Language interpreter, Barbara Hunt.
Throughout five decades, the ensemble members have worked to create engaging and socially conscious music that consistently takes an active stance toward making our planet a better place for all in which to live. Their musical landscape embraces multiple genres/generations and addresses civil & human rights, women’s issues, gun violence, death, love, spirituality, children’s songs and so much more. Sweet Honey In The Rock has continuously evolved into international ambassadors of a cappella vocal and lyrical excellence, performing for the likes of Barack and Michelle Obama, as well as at the National Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela.
