Church Hill, MD - Church Hill Theatre is pleased to announce that registration for Basic Acting Skills for Students (BASS) will open online on December 10, 2025. BASS offers students in 1st through 8th grades a chance to bask in the glow of the footlights in a series of Saturday workshops. In this program, which begins on January 31, 2026, students learn about improvisation, character development, scene preparation, and musical theatre dance and vocals. The students’ exploration of theatrical scenes, storytelling, movement and song concludes with a performance for family and friends, scheduled for February 28.

In 2026, the program will include two class levels: students in grades 1-4, and students in grades 5-8. The program will be taught by Becca Van Aken, program founder and experienced theater and QACPS educator. Ms. Van Aken will be joined by experienced guest instructors and members of the Church Hill Theatre family.
Classes will be held on Saturdays beginning January 31, running through February 28. The BASS Jr class (1st to 4th graders) will run from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The BASS Sr. class (5th to 8th graders) will run from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. There will be a joint class for both groups on the final day, February 28 from 9:00AM to 1:00 PM, including a brief presentation for families.

The cost of the class is $110. Partial scholarships are available. A 10% discount is offered to families who register more than one child. Spring Symposium: Celebrating Eight Years of Collaborative Work with the Center for Religion & Cities

Join us as we celebrate eight years of work in Baltimore! Explore ways to build a more just city through reflection, dreaming, sharing, and action. The Center for Religion and Cities (CRC) was founded in 2018 as a group of researchers, students, community leaders, and other partners dedicated to cultivating an ecological understanding of pressing issues related to religion and cities. After eight years of collaborative inquiry, we invite all who have been involved in CRC activities over the years to join us this coming spring.

Guided by lessons learned, this symposium provides a space to collectively explore how the quality of our lives and labor improve through the relational and iterative ways we move through change. In this spirit, we will reflect upon how the CRC has impacted the ways we understand our vital endeavors– the work of critiquing inequities, imagining better futures, and bringing to life visions for a beloved community– for a more just city. Rather than anticipating any sense of completion, this gathering aims to sustain an ongoing flow between: [1] reflective stillness, [2] hopeful dreaming, [3] intentional sharing+listening, and [4] visions for future collaborative action.

This event is free with breakfast and lunch provided.

From the ship’s grand construction to its fatal collision with the iceberg, you’ll get to fully immerse yourself in the Titanic's captivating story. Wander through its lavish halls, watch the iceberg appear, and relive the ship’s dramatic final moments in an immersive gallery. Plus, with a virtual reality exploration of the Titanic’s wreck site more than 2.5 miles deep into the ocean, it promises to be a retelling of the Titanic story like no other.

Maryland Art Place, in partnership with Hotel Indigo Baltimore, is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Maryland-based artist, Roo Taylor. The exhibition is on view at Hotel Indigo, located at 24 West Franklin St. from April 17 - July 17.
A public reception will take place on Wednesday, April 22 from 5 PM to 7 PM.

About the Artist:
Roo Taylor (b. 2003) is a Baltimore-based artist originally from Denver, Colorado. She earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and is currently a resident artist at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. Working primarily with high-flow acrylic paint and acrylic ink, Taylor uses transparency and layered color to create abstract landscapes. Her work explores the interplay between the natural world and human relationships, exploring the emotional and atmospheric depth through fluid, natural spaces. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries across Baltimore, Denver and New York, as well as internationally at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan.

Using light and color as metaphors for energy, Roo Taylor’s work traces the through lines between the natural world and human connection. Rooted in a deep reverence for transparency and hue, each piece is meant to reflect on the connection between feeling and form. Taylor invites viewers to experience emotional resonance as something inherently natural, alive, layered, and luminous.

Contemporary Porcelain: From Tradition to Innovation explores the enduring legacy of porcelain while showcasing the bold ways artists are redefining this historic material today. Long celebrated for its refinement, translucency, and technical precision, porcelain has deep roots in global traditions.

Featuring works by contemporary ceramic artists, the exhibition highlights porcelain’s remarkable versatility. This exhibition invites viewers to reconsider what porcelain can be, and how tradition can spark transformation rather than limit it.
