Noah Haidu: The Doctone Project - The Music of Kenny Kirkland

Join acclaimed jazz pianist Noah Haidu and his brilliant quartet at An die Musik Live for an unforgettable evening celebrating the music of the late Kenny Kirkland—a visionary composer and pianist whose influence continues to shape modern jazz. This special performance is timed with what would have been Kirkland’s 70th birthday and supported by an ambitious multimedia project: The Doctone Project.

Noah Haidu, piano
Kevin Sun, sax
Gervis Myles, bass
Aaron Seeber, drums

“He has developed his own compelling brand of pianism…like a pent-up spirit released.” – Larry Blumenfeld, Wall Street Journal

Haidu’s project pays tribute to Kirkland’s brilliance with the first-ever full-length album of his original compositions, alongside a book and documentary film featuring interviews with jazz luminaries including Sting, Jason Moran, Delfeayo Marsalis, and many others. Described as “a work of stunning execution and heart” by DownBeat, the music blends soul, swing, and sophisticated innovation—reflecting Kirkland’s dynamic legacy.

Haidu has earned acclaim for his dynamic playing, hailed by The Wall Street Journal for his “buoyant and freestyle. With recent albums landing on DownBeat Best of the Year lists and national recognition from NPR and All Songs Considered, Noah brings a fresh, narrative-driven approach to the piano that blends intellect with groove. His performances captivate with intricate interplay, heartfelt tributes, and a deep reverence for the jazz lineage. STANDARDS III album – the focus of his last appearance on our stage – was in the top 5 on the JazzWeek Radio Chart for six weeks.

Joining him in this brilliant quartet are the remarkable saxophonist Kevin Sun, the brilliant Aaron Seeber on drums and one of the most impressive bass players of recent years: Gervis Myles. Expect a high-energy, emotionally resonant performance of deep grooves and electrifying improvisation. The quartet will honor Kirkland’s fearless artistry while forging fresh creative ground.

Noah Haidu last appeared on our stage on August 2nd.
