Mfume Wins Easily

Mfume for Congress

Congressman Kweisi Mfume coasted to victory in Maryland’s 7th Congressional District last night in one of the higher profile Congressional races in the state.

He took nearly three quarters of the vote in his race against Kimberly Klacik, a Republican commentator whose campaign video caught the eye of President Donald Trump.

Mfume, who won the seat long held by his friend the late Elijah Cummings in April—and had held it for 10years before that--took a shot at Klacik, a member of the Baltimore County Republican Central committee who raised $7 million after Trump shared her video, in his victory speech.

“This job is not a beauty contest,” he said. “It’s not a job that you ride into on training wheels. It is one that cries out for other things that are more important. It is not one you buy with obscene amounts of money and endless TV commercials. This is a job that you earn. And you earn it day in and day out.”

Klacik, 38, posted congratulations to Mfume on her Facebook page, but warned him to be prepared to “be held accountable like never before.”

The other seven incumbent Maryland Congress members held onto their seats as well.
