Baltimore County police say they asked Facebook to suspend a woman's Facebook and Instagram accounts during a standoff because people commenting on videos of the law enforcement operation were encouraging her not to comply with orders from officers.
Police say they fatally shot 23-year-old Korryn Gaines on Monday at her Randallstown apartment when she threatened to kill officers and fired at them. Her 5-year-old son was with her and wounded in the arm during an exchange of gunfire, but authorities aren't sure if he was shot or hit by shrapnel. The boy is in good condition at a hospital.
At a news conference Tuesday, Chief Jim Johnson said Facebook suspended Gaines' account during the negotiations at their request. Police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said police didn't ask the social media company to delete any information.
