    GBMC's Walk a Mile in Their Shoes

    The 6th Annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes benefits The Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) and Domestic Violence (DV) Program at GBMC. The program is the region’s most comprehensive sexual assault, abuse, and domestic violence center. In a confidential, non-judgmental setting, forensic nurses and victim advocates treat people of all ages at no cost to the patient. In addition to providing around-the-clock medical and forensic services, the program works to re-empower survivors and begin the healing process. This year's walk will be held virtually, and participants can log their miles through Saturday, April 17 at midnight. Our goal is 2,891 miles walked to represent the number of patients treated in the program in the past 5 years. Visit www.gbmc.org/walk to register.     Sickle Cell Disease Association of America will hold the eighth annual Walk with the Stars fundraiser, where participating teams and individuals can track their walk, run, dance or movement steps while raising funds to support the association in preventing the complications of sickle cell disease through awareness, education, advocacy and research. Walk with the Stars will kick off May 22 at 10 a.m. with a Facebook Live event and culminate in a virtual Walk with the Stars celebration July 10 from 9 to 11 a.m., recognizing participants’ steps and success.     Kennedy-King Dinner

    Press Release March 2021 Virtual Kennedy-King Dinner Scheduled Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) will be the featured speaker at the Kent County Democratic Central Committee’s annual fundraising Kennedy-King Dinner, to be held virtually on Wednesday, May 12. Raskin represents Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, which includes parts of Montgomery, Carroll, and Frederick Counties. He was among the first officials to call for an impeachment inquiry into then-President Trump’s collusion with Ukraine in 2020. As chair of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, he served as the lead impeachment manager for the second impeachment of President Donald Trump. Prior to his time in Congress, Raskin was a three-term State Senator in Maryland, where he also served as the Senate Majority Whip. He earned a reputation for building coalitions in Annapolis and was also a professor of constitutional law at American University’s Washington College of Law for more than 25 years. Congressman Raskin is a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School. Tickets include a prepared three-course dinner to be picked up at Occasions Catering. The virtual social hour and program begin at 6:45pm, and include music by Pam and Bob Ortiz. The keynote presentation will be at 7:30pm. Tickets may be purchased on line at www.kentdems.org.     Ballet Theatre of Maryland presents "Momentum"

    Ballet Theatre of Maryland partners with Maryland Hall to celebrate the culmination of our Season of Hope with newly commissioned classical and contemporary works that will showcase the versatility of BTM’s dynamic dancers. This show will push the boundaries of dance as an artform to explore emotions and themes relevant to all of us presented through a medium that reaches beyond words and into the soul. Momentum features three world premieres by former Ballet Mistress Meagan Helman and current company dancers Isaac Martinez and Lindsey Bell, one North American premiere set by former company dancer Roman Mytyka, and one company premiere by Digital Dance Project Artistic Director Marinna Kus.     Make Studio Springs Forward: Collaborative Exhibits and Events!

    April ushers in celebrations of Autism Acceptance Month at Make Studio, where 75% of our artists identify as autistic persons and/ or people with autism. To mark this important month, we’re launching a new online exhibition for the month featuring a duo of pieces by participating artists (one piece created pre-COVID 19 and one made during the pandemic). We will also be sharing videos and other features from the artists throughout the month. (We recommend checking it out on your desktop for the best viewing experience!) Also beginning in April and carrying us further into spring, a new group show entitled BIARTISAN EFFORT – A Collaborative Exhibition features MICA students and Make Studio artists, who have been meeting online regularly since fall 2020 to show and discuss work, make artistic matches, and collaborate on pieces and environments specifically for the show. BIARTISAN EFFORT will also include Zoom-based artist talk and a closing workshop/ reception in May. Check out our social media handles and website at www.make-studio.org for details.
