GET FREE: A Black Feminist Reunion

GET FREE: A Black Feminist Reunion

Black feminists and leaders from across the country will convene in Baltimore, Maryland, from June 8th to 11th for the first-ever GET FREE: A Black Feminist Reunion hosted by Black Feminist Future. Black women, girls and gender-expansive people from across the nation will gather to honor the history of Black feminism and galvanize the political and social power they hold now to win concrete changes in their lives, communities and beyond.

GET FREE, which marks the fiftieth anniversary of the National Black Feminist Organization’s historic conference, will feature activists, advocates, elected officials and performers including Angelica Ross, Brittney Cooper, Lynae Vanee, Raquel Willis, Tarana Burke, Mauree Turner, and many others. Participants will discuss the role of Black feminism in advancing reproductive, racial and economic justice and fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, and will develop and ratify the Black Feminist Agenda — a national organizing, advocacy, and culture shift platform.

During the 4-day Reunion event, Black Feminist Future is also hosting its inaugural North Star Gala at the American Visionary Museum of the Arts on Saturday, June 10th. The Gala will honor the contributions of leaders in the Black feminist movement and their impact on movements for social justice today. Honorees include Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Dorothy Roberts, Dr. Moya Bailey and SnapCo. (Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative).

Panelists will include:

Angelica Ross, advocate for transgender and racial equality

Lynae Vanee, performer, poet, influencer, writer, and actress

Brittney Cooper, women and gender studies professor, activist and best-selling author

Raquel Willis, activist, author, media strategist
