G. Thomas Allen Quintet: "Smooth & Sassy!" + Wordsmith

G. Thomas Allen Quintet: "Smooth & Sassy!" + Wordsmith

The G. Thomas Allen Quintet, led by award-winning jazz vocalist, composer, music educator and MSU Alum comes to Morgan in a 2022 Homecoming kickoff event. Mr. Allen's unique, soul-infused phrases paired with improvisation that is contemporary stylizing to straight-ahead jazz helped him to win the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition. In fact, he is recognized as the first, and only male, in history to hold the prestigious SASSY Award.

G. Thomas Allen's warm timbre and stratospheric vocal range are compared to the great Philip Bailey (of Earth, Wind, & Fire). Mr. Allen's list of credits is impressive and is evidence that his vocals are indeed in-demand and in rarified air.

The Quintet: G. Thomas Allen (vocals); Dennis Luxion (piano); Jeremiah Hunt (bass); Greg Artry (drums); Sharel Cassity (sax).

Opening this special night of returning alumni is Wordsmith--the acclaimed spoken word and hip-hop artist, educator, and activist. Wordsmith, "musision of words," has spread his positive "word" and cool vibe world-wide. His versatility and talent led to a recent and very special partnership with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
