The Ethics of Organ Donation

Your browser doesn’t support HTML5 audio

Right now, nearly 4,000 Marylanders are waiting for an organ donation. Some will die waiting. Who should be first in line? What obligation do family members have to become living donors? Should it be legal to buy an organ? How can we be certain donors are giving their organs for the right reasons?

We’ll talk with playwright Michael Hollinger. His play, Under the Skin, explores questions like these, and the family dynamics surrounding kidney donation. It’s on now at Baltimore’s Everyman Theatre. Also joining us: Johns Hopkins bioethicist Jeffrey Kahn, and two people who know this subject intimately: a kidney donor and a liver transplant recipient.
