Mourning Lincoln

Your browser doesn’t support HTML5 audio

On April 15, 1865, news of President Abraham Lincoln’s death shocked the country. What followed was a huge national reaction. Historian Martha Hodes combed through diary entries and letters to study the responses provoked by Lincoln’s assassination. We’ll also speak to Adam Goodheart, historian and author of “1861: The Civil War Awakening,” who traced the Lincoln’s funeral train from Washington, D.C. to Springfield, Illinois.
