The Options for Repairing 26th Street

P. Kenneth Burns/WYPR

It’s been just over a week since the collapse of the large retaining wall that separated the unit-block of east 26th Street from the CSX railroad tracks below, in Charles Village Baltimore.

The reason that retaining wall existed in the first place has to do with a rail station…that was never built.  It’s the subject of a news analysis published today in the Baltimore Brew.  Mark Reutter, a reporter for the Brew and past editor of the journal Railroad History, suggests that instead of repairing the wall, the city could create a tunnel for trains instead.   Sheilah Kast talks with him about the piece.

Sheilah Kast is the host of On The Record, Monday-Friday, 9:30-10:00 am.
