Freediving Culture

Your browser doesn’t support HTML5 audio

While humans have developed technology to help them explore the ocean’s depths -- scuba gear, submarines – others believe the key lies within ourselves. Freediving, the art of diving 300 feet underwater and returning on a single breath, has been practiced for centuries. In James Nestor’s book, “Deep: Freediving, Renegade Science, and What the Ocean Tells Us About Ourselves,” he immerses himself in freediving culture and explores how the human body adapts to survive hundreds of feet below the sea’s surface. Nestor is a journalist and a conservationist.
