Ms. Reese was regarded by many critics (among them H. L. Mencken) as the foremost woman poet of the country and one of the nation's greatest lyricists. She was born and raised and worked in Baltimore all her life, and she particularly liked Baltimore in spring.

She mentioned the many flowering shrubs in Clifton Park, and the mist she saw between the tall buildings downtown. Eight years after she died, a plaque was dedicated in her honor at the Pratt. Thoughtfully, the ceremony was held during her favorite season - spring.
