On the night of Saturday, January 16, 1967 the area under the marquee of the of the Mechanic Theater at Baltimore and Hanover streets in downtown Baltimore was all klieg lights an celebrities.

Everybody who was anybody was there for this grand opening of Baltimore's biggest state of the art theater. The show was Hello Dolly – and both Betty Grable and Carol Channing wanted the part.  Who finally got it was theater by itself.

Gil Sandler was born and raised in Baltimore -- a circumstance he considers fortunate and one he does not want you to forget. He attended public school (P.S. #59, Garrison Junior High, Baltimore City College, Class of 1941) and then served in the United States Navy.
