Convention Returns To Baltimore After 10 Year Abscence (BBJ Story)

The Baltimore Business Journal

A convention for black engineers is making its return to Baltimore after more than a decade away.

The Black Engineer of the Year Awards and STEM Global Competitiveness Conference will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center in 2024 and 2025, Visit Baltimore said Tuesday. The conference is expected to attract more than 10,800 attendees, resulting in an estimated 4,600 hotel room bookings and an economic impact of more than $3 million, the tourism agency said. The conference, which is organized by Baltimore-based Career Communications Group, Inc., met in Baltimore from 1987 to 2010 before leaving for the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C., in 2011. Career Communications Group CEO Tyrone Taborn attributed the move to former President Barack Obama's emphasis on STEM, as well as a lack of support for the conference in Baltimore.
