White Marsh Property Sparks Interest (BBJ Story)

The Baltimore Business Journal

Interest in the 65-acre White Marsh industrial property now home to a General Motors transmission plant is beginning to heat up days after the auto maker announced it was shutting the facility down.

GM said Monday it was closing the suburban plant by April as part of a restructuring that will also shutter four other auto plants in the U.S. and Canada and eliminate 14,700 jobs. Meanwhile, the fate of the Baltimore County GM property has been uncertain since the announcement — even as developers have started eyeing it for new ownership and conversion for another industrial or manufacturing use. That may have to wait, GM officials said Wednesday. A GM spokesman said the company is still trying to sort out the details of the property’s future.
