Glenn Pleads Guilty to Bribery Charges

Barbara Haddock Taylor/Baltimore Sun

Former state Del. Cheryl Glenn pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal bribery and wire fraud charges. Prosecutors say she accepted more than $33,000 in exchange for political favors.

While in the legislature, Glenn led the fight to legalize medical marijuana in Maryland. But according to federal charging documents, she accepted $8,000 in exchange for supporting bills related to the fledgling industry.

Prosecutors say she also accepted $5,000 to reduce the amount of experience needed to become a medical director at an opioid treatment clinic and $20,000 to help an East Baltimore restaurant get a liquor license.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Glenn signed a plea agreement in June. However, she continued to serve as chair of Baltimore’s delegation to the House of Delegates until she resigned in December, days before prosecutors unsealed the charges against her.
