Baltimore officially submits RFP for Amazon HQ2

Baltimore officially submitted its proposal today to make Port Covington the site of Amazon’s second headquarters, or HQ2.

In an elaborate affair to say the least, the ceremony was complete with piano jazz and a multimedia production with the theme of “Why not Baltimore?”

Mayor Catherine Pugh, accompanied by representatives from Governor Larry Hogan’s office, Kevin Plank Industries, and Sagamore Development, signed off on the proposal.

“So Baltimore’s Port Covington for Amazon HQ2 this is the place. Baltimore!" said Pugh followed by applause.

But what’s in the city’s proposal? Well, we don’t exactly know. The mayor’s office has yet to release a copy of the lengthy proposal. But the mayor did say that "what we did--what I believe--was put together the best proposal of all from any city."

Baltimore joins Denver, Tucson, Birmingham and a host of other US cities competing for the prize. And one other in Maryland, College Park.

And while many cities have offered gifts and other unique incentives, Pugh was coy about Baltimore’s proposal.

“We didn’t sweeten the deal too much again what we presented was a sight that is shovel ready," said Pugh.

She said the land, the zoning, and the tax incentives area already there.
