Frank Nemhauser at the BCI: Building a Choral Community

Now, a conversation about a unique classical choral concert that’s happening tomorrow night in Towson, and the unique chorus that will be performing.

Berkshire Choral International is an organization that for more than 30 years has brought choral singers together from all over the world, to perform in venues all over the world.  Tomorrow night, the BCI will be at Goucher College's Kraushaar Auditorium in Towson, performing Haydn's The Seasons.  For ticket and location info, click here.

Joining Tom in Studio A to talk about the performance, and about the BCI's mission of building a global choral community, is Frank Nemhauser, who has been the group's Music Director since 1993.

At the beginning of this segment, Tom Hall comments on some unhappy news in the very vibrant world of classical music in Maryland:  "Tim Smith of the Baltimore Sun reports that a professional chorus and orchestra called Concert Artists of Baltimore has announced it is shutting down.  It was founded 31 years ago by Edward Polochick, a highly respected conductor who also serves on the faculty of the Peabody Institute, and as the Music Director of the Lincoln Symphony in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Ed and I were colleagues in the local choral community for more than three decades, and I can speak to the consistently fine work that he and the musicians of Concert Artists did.  According to the Sun, Barry Williams, the President of the Concert Artists Board, said that sustaining the organization financially was not going to be possible, so the board decided, reluctantly, to close.  This is a loss for the Baltimore music community, and I commend and thank Edward Polochick and all of his colleagues at Concert Artists for their wonderful work, over many years."
