Rousuck's Review: The Contemporary American Theater Festival

Seth Freeman

Midday theater critic J. Wynn Rousuck joins Tom in Studio A with her review of the six plays being presented this year at the annual Contemporary American Theater Festival (CATF), now underway on the campus of Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.  The plays' settings range widely - from Amish Country to Nazi Germany - but their stories share common and emotionally  powerful  themes.

The six plays being showcased at this year's Festival include: "The Niceties," written by Eleanor Burgess and directed by Kimberly Senior; "Welcome to Fear City," written by Kara Lee Corthron and directed by Nicole A. Watson; "Wild Horses," written by Allison Gregory and directed by Courtney Sale; "Byhalia, Mississippi," written by Evan Linder and directed by Marc Masterson; "Everything is Wonderful," written by Chelsea Marcantel and directed by Ed Herendeen; and "We Will Not Be Silent," written by David Meyers and directed by Ed Herendeen.

The CATF was founded in 1991, and is located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The  2017 Festival runs through Sunday, July 30th.
