How do eating disorders affect the brain? What role do genetics play in determining who is at risk? Dr. Harry Brandt, co-director of the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt, takes us inside the mind of a patient. We’ll find out what parts of the brain are involved in how we feel about food and how we perceive our bodies.

Plus, the emerging science of mindfulness. Can practiced relaxation be an effective treatment for these pernicious disorders? We’ll hear from Carolyn LaBrie, co-president of the Eating Disorder Network of Maryland and a psychologist at Prosperity Eating Disorders and Wellness in Herndon, Virginia. Meditation has played a large role in her recovery from anorexia. She’ll tell us why.
