Rising Child Migration

A flood, a surge, an influx. In 2014, headline writers struggled to convey the massive number of Central American children crossing the border into the United States. Those headlines have faded, but the kids are still coming. In fact, we are likely on the cusp of a new, equally large wave of unaccompanied minors from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. As in the previous surge, many of these children are coming to Maryland. Today we’ll talk with Randy Capps, an expert from the Migration Policy Institute, a nonprofit think tank, and Alejandra Morisi, staff attorney for Catholic Charities’ Esperanza Center in Baltimore. What happens to unaccompanied child migrants once they arrive?
