This week, a Baltimore Sun investigation revealed that the city has paid out more than $5 million dollars since 2011 due to allegations of police brutality. More than 100 cases resulted in settlements or court judgments for victims. Their allegations range from assault to civil rights violations. This news surfaces in the wake of several high profile cases in Baltimore, such as the death of Tyrone West while in police custody, and the recent release of video footage showing an officer punching a suspect.
