Last night, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton addressed the DNC to accept the party’s nomination. After she was introduced by her daughter Chelsea Clinton, Sec. Clinton appealed to disgruntled Bernie Sanders supporters who find her policies too moderate and working class families who feel forgotten by politicians.
All week Democrats have tried to bring the party together with rousing addresses from leaders in the party, including President Obama, former Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, former president Bill Clinton and first lady Michelle Obama.
Democrats also addressed the distrust and anger many people of color feel towards law enforcement, a topic that was noticeably absent at the RNC. On Tuesday night, the Mothers of the Movement -- a council of African-American mothers whose unarmed children either died in police custody, were killed by the police, or were killed by racially motivated gun violence -- addressed the convention in support of Hillary Clinton. Lucia McBath, the mother of Jordan Davis -- an unarmed Florida teen who was killed by racially motivated gun violence in 2012 -- notably said "Hillary Clinton isn't afraid to say Black Lives Matter."
Despite calls for unity, some of Bernie Sanders supporters left the convention in protest of Hillary Clinton’s nomination.
