In a half-century of prolific creativity, the writer John Irving has produced 14 novels, including The World According to Garp (which won him a National Book Award in 1980), The Hotel New Hampshire, and, most recently, Avenue of Mysteries. He’s also written a children’s book, two memoirs, an essay collection and several screenplays – he took home the “best adapted screenplay” Oscar in 2000 for adapting his 1985 novel, The Cider House Rules. He’s been on the short list for a Pulitzer Prize. John Irving will be in Baltimore Tuesday, March 22nd, for the Baltimore Speakers Series, presented by Stevenson University. The event will be moderated by WYPR’s Sheilah Kast, who last week spoke by phone with John Irving at his home in Toronto, Canada.
