The film maker Allen Moore has been the director of photography on several Ken Burns films, including The Civil War, Baseball, and The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. He teaches filmmaking at the Maryland College of Art, and on Friday (March 4th), he will screen his latest project: a documentary he produced with friend and collaborator Leo Horrigan, called Out of Our Heads: A Male Journey into the Heart.
It's a very personal project for both men. Leo Horrigan is a facilitator and Allen Moore is a participant in something called the Men's Wisdom Council. It's a group of men who meet at a camp regularly to explore often complicated and troubling issues in their lives, using the support and empathy of their fellow participants to help them work through their problems. The MICA film screening this Friday, March 4, begins at 8pm.
