Last September, Maryland’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, ruled that if you’re arrested, you have a right to an attorney at an initial bail hearing and if you can’t afford one, the state must provide one. The District Court of Maryland is trying to lure lawyers across the state to meet the new need with their “Appointed Attorneys Program”.
