Tourism and agriculture drive Maryland’s Eastern Shore economy. But, a report released earlier this year by the state’s economic development agency found there was another industry with room to expand on the Shore: space.
NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility sits five miles across the state line in Accomack County, Virginia. It’s estimated that 40 to 50 percent of the Wallops’ workforce lives in Maryland. Just last week, Wallops broke ground on a new research park that could attract more aerospace companies to the area and more jobs. What does that mean for Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore?
