One of the first wines outside of Europe and the U.S. to make a splash were from Chile. So, Al and Hugh revisit the wines of this South American country.

Lots of classic cab flavors, decent tannins, good body

Cousiño-Macul Cabernet Sauvignon "Antiguas Reserva", Maipo '14 **1/2 Less than $20

A rather complex cab sauv with layers of flavor, good quality

Concha Y Toro "Terrunyo" Pirque vyd. "Las Terrazas" Maipo, '14 **1/2 $20-$40

A very refined wine that shows its terroir, complex, lots of personality

Montgras "Quatro", Colchaugua '13 ** Less than $20

Blend of cs, carm, syr and malbec, good everyday red blend

Al Spoler, well known to WYPR listeners as the wine-loving co-host of "Cellar Notes" has had a long-standing parallel interest in cooking as well.
