The Birds, the Sox, the Hex

When in the fall of 1975, the Orioles were in a nail-biting playoff race with the Boston Red Sox, radio station's disc-jockey, in a madcap scheme that would make Baltimore history, persuaded National Beer to send him to Kenya in Africa - there to  persuade a witch doctor to put a hex on the Sox and insure an Oriole victory.

Walker did indeed meet with the witch doctor and did indeed strike a bargain to get a hex put on the Sox. The only one in the deal to come out a winner was the witch doctor.

Gil Sandler was born and raised in Baltimore -- a circumstance he considers fortunate and one he does not want you to forget. He attended public school (P.S. #59, Garrison Junior High, Baltimore City College, Class of 1941) and then served in the United States Navy.
