Wet Start To Election Day (BBJ Story)

The Baltimore Business Journal

Soaking rain, fog and flooded streets greeted voters on Tuesday, probably the worst weather you can have on Election Day. But the bad weather — and glitches at local polling places — didn't stop voters from casting ballots in an election that exemplifies the great divide the U.S. is seeing among its populace.

Polls stay open until 8 p.m. at Maryland's 1,600 polling places, and officials expect a steady stream up until closing time. The races in Maryland will decide whether Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, keeps his seat against contender Ben Jealous, a Democrat and former head of the NAACP. Hogan himself upset the favorite Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown in 2012 so everyone is wondering whether Jealous will do the same. There are also a slew of Congressional and local races on the ballot, including contested county executive races in Baltimore County, Howard and Anne Arundel counties.
