U.S. Conference Of Mayors Identifies Path To Police Reform

Mary Rose Madden

The United States Conference of Mayors released a report on police reform Thursday that calls, among other things, for cities to focus on core police work and spend more on social service agencies and to tighten use of force training.

Baltimore Mayor Jack Young says he is “extremely pleased” that many of those recommendations came “straight from the Baltimore Police Department.”

And he says he will continue to work to implement the federal consent decree that calls for widespread reforms in the city’s police department.

City Police Commissioner Michael Harrison served on the Police Reform and Racial Justice Working Group that developed the recommendations in the report.
