Penn Station Developers Looking For Tenants (BBJ Story)

The Baltimore Business Journal

The team tapped to redevelop Penn Station in Midtown Baltimore is on the hunt for retail and office tenants. The $140 million project is expected to begin by the end of the year, developers Penn Station Partners said Monday.

The developer hired CBRE's Baltimore office to lease office space inside the historic train station at 1500 N. Charles St., ground zero for thousands of commuters and passengers each week. A separate retail leasing team will be selected. The office space will be located on the upper level of Penn Station that is now vacant. The project's initial phase will also add new train boarding platforms at the ground level and larger passenger concourses to accommodate commuters on MARC and Acela high-speed trains. Penn Station was built in 1911 for the Pennsylvania Railroad and designed in the Beaux-Arts architectural style. Today it is one of the 10 busiest train stations in the U.S. and serves Amtrak and MARC commuter train riders. Amtrak has said it plans to invest up to $90 million in the project that aims to modernize the station and make it more efficient. At present, the retail options inside the station include a gift shop and a Dunkin' Donuts.
