Midday News Wrap 12.01.17

Among the stories on this week's edition of the Midday News Wrap:  former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn appears in federal court in Washington to plead guilty to lying to the FBI about a conversation he had with the Russian ambassador.  The plea provides another indication that General Flynn is cooperating with that investigation.

Elsewhere in Washington, the trial of six people who protested at the inauguration of Donald Trump continued.  They are among more than 200 people who have been charged with felonies, and if convicted, they face decades in prison.

The President and his itchy twitter finger have drawn the ire of British PM Theresa May as he re-tweets anti-Muslim videos endorsing racist right wing group Britain First.

Also, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s future as the top member of the Trump cabinet is in question.  White House officials have told the New York Times and other media outlets that the President plans to replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.  Tillerson has dismissed these claims as “laughable."

Here in Baltimore, Police Commisioner Kevin Davis has asked the FBI to take over the investigation into the murder of BPD Det. Sean Suiter last week.

On the Midday NewsWrap panel this afternoon, Tom is joined byDarlene Superville, who covers the White House for the Associated Press; Real News Network reporter Baynard Woods  joins Tom in Studio A.  Woods writes a column called Democracy in Crisis, which is syndicated in more than 20 alternative weekly papers, and is the co-founder of the Baltimore Institute for Nonprofit Journalism.
