The trials in the officers accused in the death of Freddie Gray resume in about a month when Officer Brian Rice becomes the second person to face charges in this controversial and complicated case. The Appeals Court has ruled that William Porter must testify in Rice’s trial, as well as the trials of the other four officers, despite the fact that Porter’s own trial ended with a hung jury. Our legal eagles, Ed Smith and David Jaros join us with insight into what the Appeals Court ruling means for the prosecution and the defense, and the precedents it sets for other cases moving forward. Then, Ira Glass joins me to talk shop. He’s the host of This American Life, a show that so many other shows look to as a model, and Theater critic J Wynn Rousuck has a review of Motown: The Musical at the Hippodrome Theater.
